In Noakhali's Begamganj, a Chhatra Dal leader was allegedly shot for stopping him from consuming drugs. The incident took place in Kanchihata market of Ward No. 1 of Aman Ullahpur Union of Upazila on Tuesday (October 29) evening. Ibrahim Masum (27), general secretary of the same union Chhatra Dal, was shot.

This information was confirmed by Begumganj Upazila Jubo Dal's convenor Khorshed Alam. Quoting the locals, he said that on Tuesday morning, a local youth was consuming yaba in a room next to the local Kanchihata market. At that time some young men arrested him. Then Chhatra Dal leader Masum was next to him. He immediately went to the spot and attempted to beat up the drug addict. Then some people from the camp in the same area called Masum on the phone and told him that they will solve the matter together with them in the afternoon. They should release the detained boy. Immediately the Chhatra Dal leaders released the detained boy.

He complained and said that in the evening Masum was sitting in a shop in Kanchihata market and chatting. Some boys came there and beat him.  He then went to a pharmacy shop to get first aid. Later some boys came to that shop with motorcycles and attacked Masum again. At one point the attackers fired a blank shot. Later, he shot Masum's left leg and ran away.

When contacted, District Youth Dal President Manjurul Azim Sumon said, as soon as I heard the matter, I sent upazila Youth Dal joint convener Khorshed Alam to the spot. They are looking into the matter

District Jamaat Amir Ishaq Khandaka denied the allegations and said that the boy who was beaten up in the morning was involved in Jamaat politics. A long time ago he used to do Chhatra Dal. He joined the Jamaat six months ago. That is why he was beaten in the morning. However, I do not know who is attacking the Chhatra Dal leader. In response to another question, he said, there is no such question. Yaba is coming to settle the case.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Abdullah Al Farooq said two teams of army and police visited the scene after receiving the information. The injured youth is undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. It is not yet fully known what caused the incident.
