The start was good. However, a group of thieves got caught while stealing cows in Kabirhat, Noakhali, forgetting the road. Later, they were chased by the locals and fled, leaving behind two stolen cows and the pickup van used for the theft.

Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahin Mia confirmed the matter at around 1 pm on Sunday (March 16). Earlier, the incident took place at around 3 am on Saturday in Amarpur village of ward number 4 of Chaprashirhat union of the upazila.

According to local sources, the group of thieves stole cows in a pickup van from an unknown place in the upazila and entered the Amarpur road. Soil cutting contractor Dhanu Mia saw their car and signaled them to stop when they were suspicious. Their pickup van ran over Dhanu Mia’s motorcycle and went on the wrong road. Later, unable to find the road ahead, they returned to the same road. Seeing the car returning again, Dhanu Mia tried to stop them with the help of locals. They tried to escape without stopping. Then the locals chased them from behind. At one stage, while bringing soil from Rameshwarpur to Amarpur, the thief’s pickup van got stuck in front of another tractor in front of Abu Taher’s house. Unable to overtake, the group of thieves got out of the car, hacked the driver of the soil truck, Raihan, to pieces with a machete, and fled. Hearing his screams, the locals came forward and set fire to the pickup van used for the theft. At the same time, they recovered two stolen cows and handed them over to the police.

Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahin Mia said that the locals burnt the pickup van after taking down the two cows. On receiving the information, the police visited the spot. The two cows and the pickup van were seized and brought to the police station. The police are trying to arrest the accused.
