Students block road in protest against harassment of teacher

Students of Eklashpur High School in Begumganj, Noakhali, blocked the road and held a protest march and human chain program in protest against the harassment of Parveen Akhter, a senior teacher, in a CNG-powered autorickshaw.
The program was held in front of Eklashpur High School in the upazila on Sunday (March 16) around noon. Earlier, the incident of harassment of the teacher took place on the Chaumuhani to Maijdi regional highway in the upazila around 11:30 am on Sunday, March 11.
Teachers, students and guardians of the school spoke at the human chain. The speakers said that those involved in the assault and robbery of the teacher should be identified, severely punished, arrested and brought to justice.
It was learned that on March 11, around 11:30 am, teacher Parveen Akhter boarded a CNG-powered autorickshaw from Eklashpur Bazar to go from school to her residence at Apan Nibas Housing at Chaumuhani Crossroads. After traveling some distance, some men inside the CNG physically harassed her and applied chemicals to her eyes. During this time, they took money and a mobile phone from the teacher’s bag. Later, the autorickshaw traveled from College Gate to Eklashpur Bazar for about 30 minutes and dropped the victim at a secluded place.
Liton Dewan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Police Station, said, “The students blocked the road for a while and formed a human chain. After receiving the news, I went to the spot and spoke to them. A written complaint has already been filed in this incident. Legal action will be taken after investigation.”
