Terrorists shot dead a youth named Md. Shakil (28) in Begumganj, Noakhali. However, the police could not immediately reveal the reason for the murder.
The incident took place at around 8 pm on Monday (April 28) at the Islamia Market in Gangabor Bazar, Ward No. 2 of Chhayani Union of the upazila. The deceased Shakil was the son of Md. Solaiman Khokon of the same village and was a Thai mechanic by profession.
Locals said that around 8 pm, Shakil and some others were sitting at a shop in the Islamia Market in Gangabor Bazar, Chhayani and having tea. At that time, five gunmen came to the area in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and tried to forcibly pick up a youth named Labib. Then, when Shakil and some others tried to stop them, the terrorists shot Shakil. At that time, his younger brother Shuvo (25) was injured by slashing. The people of the immediate area rescued the two brothers and took them to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where the doctor declared Shakil dead. Later, the locals arrested three armed terrorists and conducted a mob lynching.
Begumganj Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Habibur Rahman said, “I heard that there was a shooting incident. I have reached the spot after receiving the information. The locals have detained three armed terrorists by mob lynching them. Their condition is also critical. We are trying to rescue them.”
