A young woman died in a fire in a single-storey house in Begamganj of Noakhali. However, the police could not give any reason for the fire.   Locals consider the death of the young woman to be mysterious.

The incident took place in Durgapur village of ward number 3 of Durgapur union of the upazila on Wednesday (October 30) early morning. Deceased Smriti Akter (18) is the daughter of Kamal Hossain of Gazi’s house in the same union. He was hearing and physically challenged.

Talking to the locals, Smriti’s father is an expatriate. He lived alone in a single room. His stepmother Afroza Begum lived in the neighboring house. Around 4:30 am on Wednesday, some local people on their way to the mosque to offer Fajr prayers saw a house on fire. They quickly reached the spot and found the house completely gutted. Smriti, who was at home at that time, was burnt to death while sleeping. Locals could not tell the cause of the fire.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj police station Liton Dewan said that after receiving the information, several members of the police and law enforcement agencies visited the scene. However, the cause of the fire is not yet known. The body of the deceased girl was recovered and sent to Noakhali 250-bed general hospital morgue for post-mortem. A General Diary (GD) has been taken in this incident.
