A former UP member was arrested by the Navy contingent from Hatia, an isolated island of Noakhali. The arrested Jasim Uddin (43) is a former UP member of Ward No. 6 of Jahazamara Union of Upazila.

He was handed over to Hatia police station on Tuesday (October 22) around 6:30 pm.  Earlier, he was arrested from Jahazmara Union of the upazila around 1 pm on the same day.

It is known that based on intelligence information, the Navy arrested Jasim, the accused in several cases, from the Jahazamara Union of the upazila. There are several cases against him in the area for assault, fight, vandalism, theft and other charges. He was covered for a long time. When he returned to the area a few days ago, a team of the Navy raided and arrested him.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatia police station Touhidul Anwar confirmed the matter. He said that there are two cases in the police station against the arrested accused. Among them, he is on bail in one case.  An absconding accused in another case. He was produced before the judicial court on Wednesday morning.
