Registration period for Hajj 2025 has ended. Compared to last year, the cost of Hajj has been reduced by more than 1 lakh rupees and the time has been increased, but the Hajj pilgrims have not responded. More than half of the quotas are still vacant.
Only 44 percent of the full quota of Hajj pilgrims have registered for Hajj in three and a half months till Sunday (December 15) under government and private management.
According to the data of Hajj portal till 8 pm on Sunday, 62 thousand 212 Haj pilgrims have registered out of the quota of 1 lakh 27 thousand 198 people. And about 8 thousand pilgrims have deposited vouchers in the bank to go for Hajj. A total of 70,000 pilgrims have registered to perform Hajj next year. On the other hand, the Saudi government has given a quota of 1 lakh 27 thousand 198 to Bangladeshis for next year’s Hajj. As such, there are still about 57,000 Hajj quotas vacant.
Out of 62 thousand 212 pilgrims, 4 thousand 759 have been officially registered and 57 thousand 453 have been registered privately. About 8 thousand pilgrims deposited money in the bank. Usually, if you deposit money in the bank, it takes one working day to be deposited. As such, those who have deposited money on Sunday will be deposited on Tuesday. Because Monday is Victory Day holiday.
When asked whether the time will be extended or not, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Religion (Hajj Division) said. Md. Manjurul Haque said that the time has been extended three times this year. Due to the ultimatum of the Saudi government, it is not possible to extend the time.
He said that if the Haj pilgrims don’t send the money to the Saudi government by December 22, tent No. 5 will not be available for Bangladeshis. Other countries have started booking tents. That is why it has become necessary to send money to the Saudi government for those who have registered.
The Ministry of Religion is worried about the lack of response in Hajj registration despite cost reduction. In such a situation, the Ministry of Religion has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism to reduce the air fare to fulfill the Haj quota.
Recently, the religious adviser. AFM Khalid Hossain gave a semi-official letter (DO letter) to Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser AF Hasan Arif to reduce the air fare by another 27 thousand 820 taka to 1 lakh 40 thousand taka.
In the DO letter, Khalid Hossain said that if the air fare is reduced, it will be easier to fulfill the Haj quota of Bangladesh. The respect of the country will increase with the Saudi government. Biman Bangladesh Airlines will also benefit commercially.
On October 30, 2025, the government officially announced two packages for Hajj. According to the announced affordable package, the cost has been estimated at 4 lakh 79 thousand 242 taka. The cost of the other package is 5 lakh 75 thousand 680 taka. Airfare has been reduced by at least 27 thousand taka compared to 2024 in these packages. But food money in government package 40,000 and 750 Saudi Riyals for the sacrifice, the pilgrims have been asked to take separately. Last year food money was included in the package. Private agency owners also announce multiple packages in coordination with government packages. Besides, they were demanding to reduce the air fare.
The holy Hajj will be held on June 5 next year subject to moon sighting.
