Golam Hossain Bablu (48), chairman of Ashwadia Union of Sadar Upazila of Noakhali and joint secretary of Sadar Upazila Awami League, was arrested by Sudharam police station.

He was arrested on Wednesday (January 15) at around 7 pm from his home in Law-Years Colony of district town Maijdi.

According to the police, he was arrested on Wednesday evening based on a tip-off. There are several cases against him which are being investigated. He will be arrested and produced in the judicial court around noon on Thursday.

Chairman Bablu’s wife Shahnaz Akhtar complained and said that my husband was elected chairman twice and is involved in Awami politics. There is no case against my husband. He was arrested for no crime just because he supported Awami politics.

When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Police Station Kamrul Islam confirmed the truth of the incident and said that there are several political cases against him. He was arrested from his home. Details will be given later.
