Fined Tk 50,000 for making semai in unhygienic environment

A mobile court in Begumganj, Noakhali has fined an establishment Tk 50,000 for making unhygienic environment, child labor and fake semai.
The operation was conducted at Taher Food on Madrasa Road, ward number 8 of Chaumuhani Municipality of the upazila around 12 noon on Saturday (February 22).
According to the sources of the operation, a few days ago, allegations were received that low-quality semai was being produced and marketed in an unhygienic environment at the Taher Food factory on Madrasa Road, ward number 8 of Chaumuhani Municipality of the upazila. Based on the complaint, a mobile court led by Begumganj Upazila Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Murad Islam, with the help of Begumganj Police Station and Army, conducted a raid on Taher Food on Saturday afternoon. During the raid, a fine of Tk 50,000 was imposed on Taher Food owner Abu Taher Patwari for producing fake semai in an unhygienic environment. Taher Food has been producing fake semai in their factory for the past 8 years ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Begumganj Upazila Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Murad Islam said, “For making Banful Semai in a dirty environment and packing it with children, a fine of Tk 50,000 has been imposed under the Consumer Rights Protection Act. They have been given three days to make Semai in a hygienic environment. Otherwise, further legal action will be taken against them. Such campaign activities will continue in the public interest.”
