16 shops in Noakhali Sadar Upazila have been burnt to ashes in a fire. However, no casualties were reported in the incident. Abdul Quader, Station Officer of Maijdi Fire Service, confirmed the matter early on Sunday (March 23).

 

Earlier, on Saturday, March 22, the incident took place at around 1:45 am in Mannan Nagar Bazar in Aojbalia Union of the upazila. The victims claimed that the fire caused a loss of about 150 million taka. Upon receiving the information, two units of Maijdi Fire Service and one unit of Subarnachar Fire Service tried to control the fire for an hour and a half.

 

Locals said that like every day, traders closed their shops and left. Many went to sleep after eating dinner. At around 1:45 am, a fire suddenly broke out from the stove of Horan’s tea shop. Later, locals came and tried to put out the fire after hearing the screams of the traders in the market and informed the fire service. But before that, the fire spread to all sides and at least 16 shops including 1 clothing shop, 3 tea shops, 1 chicken shop, 3 grocery shops were burnt down. Upon receiving the information, two units of Maijdi Fire Service Station and one unit of Subarnachar Fire Service tried for about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control.

 

Maijdi Fire Service Station Officer Abdul Kader also said that initially it is believed that the fire started from the stove of a tea shop. It caused about 4 million taka in damage. Two units of Maijdi Fire Service and one unit of Subarnachar Fire Service tried for about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control.
