The police have unraveled the mystery of the murder of school student Abdul Hamid Raihan in Dadpur Union of Sadar, Noakhali. After arresting the accused Maruf Hossain (22), he confessed his responsibility in the incident and gave a statement under Section 164 in the court.

District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruk confirmed this information at a press conference at Sudharam Model Police Station on Friday (March 28) afternoon.

The deceased Raihan was the son of farmer Alamgir of Haji Bari of the same village and a class 10 student of the local Khalifarhat High School. On the other hand, the arrested Maruf (25) is the son of Md. Selim of the same house.

The Superintendent of Police said that Raihan left his house in Hooghly village of Dadpur Union at around 8 pm on March 25 to offer Tarawih prayers. Later that night, he did not return home. The next day, Raihan’s brother Harun or Rashid Shanto posted on Facebook asking for his brother’s help and gave a mobile number. That day, around 10:30 am, Maruf called Shanto’s number, hiding his identity, demanded a ransom of 15 lakh taka and asked him to go to the Chaumuhani railway line with the money. Later, after the accused Maruf was arrested based on that number, Raihan’s body was recovered from a septic tank next to the house on the afternoon of Thursday, March 27, based on the information he provided.

The Superintendent of Police also said that on the night of the incident, Raihan and Maruf went to a nearby place to eat coconuts. Later, while returning from that place, they first had an argument over a trivial matter. At one stage, Maruf hit Raihan on the head with a cricket stamp in his hand, causing him to die on the spot. Later, late at night, Maruf alone took Raihan’s body and left it in a nearby septic tank.

In this incident, the father of the deceased Raihan, Alamgir Hossain, filed a case as the plaintiff, mentioning the name of Maruf and making him an unknown accused. The accused was sent to the district jail through the court on Friday, March 28 afternoon.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Tayyab Md. Arif Hossain and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station, Mohammad Kamrul Islam, were present at the press conference.
