In Noakhali’s Dwip Upazila Hatiya, the affected residents have formed a human chain and gathered to demand protection from severe river erosion in the Meghna River.

 

On Tuesday (October 29) at noon, thousands of residents, market traders, school-madrasa teachers and students, mosque imams and other professions participated in the human chain program on the bank of Meghna river in Thanarhat market area of ​​Chanandi union of the upazila.

 

Locals in the human chain said that in the last three years, nearly two lakh people have been displaced by the river. 20 bazaars, mosques, madrasahs, more than half a hundred schools and hundreds of buildings were destroyed.

 

Government funds have been sanctioned to prevent river erosion, but the work has not yet started due to irregularities due to the negligence of the contractor.  Besides, no work was done due to the irregularities of former Awami League MP Mohammad Ali.  The speakers demanded immediate government initiatives to prevent river erosion.

 

Chanandi Union BNP president Sohel Mahmud, anti-discrimination student movement leader Kamrul Hasan Tarek and others spoke at this time.
