A Rohingya citizen has been arrested along with a broker while coming to vote in Sonaimuri, Noakhali. The arrested are Nurul Amin (30), son of Amir Hossain of room 395 of camp number 22 of Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, and Md., son of the late Shafiqullah of the goldsmith’s house of Baorkot village in Joyag union of Sonaimuri. Belayet Hossain (43).

 

The incident took place at the Upazila Election Commission office on Tuesday (June 3) at around 3 pm.

 

Locals said that Rohingya youth Nurul Amin got his birth certificate from the local union through Raju Dalal, a resident of Sonaimuri living in Chittagong. Then on Tuesday morning, Rohingya youth Nurul Amin came to Sonaimuri from Ukhia Camp in Cox’s Bazar. Then, he went to the Upazila Election Office at around 3 pm to become a voter. At that time, Raju Dalal’s uncle Belayet Hossain collected all the documents for the Rohingya youth to become a voter and came to the Upazila Election Office. Later, he tried to take a photo of the Rohingya youth to become a voter there. They were questioned after discrepancies were found in their conversation at the election office. At one stage, the Rohingya youth said that he had come to vote through Raju Dalal. Raju Dalal handed him over to his uncle Dalal Belayet at around 2 pm. Dalal Md. Raju (38) has been hiding since the incident.

 

Confirmed the matter Assistant-cum-computer typist of Sonaimuri Upazila Election Office Md. Ali Hossain. He said, suspicions arose when they found discrepancies in their behavior, information and speech. At one stage, they were caught when they were challenged about their documents. The two detainees were handed over to the police station in the evening. Preparations are underway to file a case in this incident.

 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station Morshed Alam said, I have heard about the matter. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is filed.
