A fifth grade student died after being electrocuted at a wedding ceremony in Chatkhil, Noakhali. The incident took place on Monday (June 2) night at Miji Bari in Ward No. 8 of Badalkot Union of the upazila.

The deceased, Tanvir Mahatab (13), is the son of Md. Shaheen of the same union and was a fifth grade student of Badalkot Government Primary School.

Badalkot Union Parishad Chairman Md. Solaiman said that a wedding ceremony was going on at the house. At around 7:45 pm, Tanvir went to the roof of the wedding house. There, he inadvertently pulled on the chandelier installed for the wedding ceremony and was seriously injured after being electrocuted. Later, the people of the house rescued him and took him to the local doctor, who declared him dead. His death has cast a shadow of grief among his family members and classmates.

Chatkhil Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said the matter has not been reported to the police, but an inquiry will be conducted into the matter.
