Noakhali has received continuous rain in the last 24 hours. This has led to public suffering due to waterlogging in various parts of the district city. The District Meteorological Office recorded 160 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours from Wednesday morning to Thursday (June 19) 9 am.
It is learned that various important offices, residential areas and roads including the District Judge Court premises, Judge Court Road, the road in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, District Jame Masjid Road, Housing Estate, Balur Math, Master Para, Khandaker Para, Madhusudanpur Laxminarayanpur have been suffering due to waterlogging.
Local residents said that the canals flowing over the Noakhali Municipality have been encroached upon, and waterlogging problems arise even with a little rain. This has led to public suffering. School and college-going students, working people, patients and ordinary pedestrians have been suffering due to this. The reservoirs in the low-lying areas of the city have almost disappeared. Due to the construction of unplanned housing and shops, rainwater has nowhere to go. If sustainable drainage measures are not taken now, the city will be permanently waterlogged in the coming days.
District Meteorological Office Officer-in-Charge Md. Rafiqul Islam said that the highest rainfall of 160 millimeters in the country has been recorded in Noakhali in the last 24 hours. It has rained in the last few days. It may rain in the next few days as well.
Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Istiak Ahmed said, we have held several meetings to resolve the waterlogging. We are looking at the matter seriously. In this regard, the cooperation of the people is also needed.
