Two houses were robbed in one night in Companiganj, Noakhali. This has created a fear of robbers in this upazila. Several houses in the upazila after August 5 were robbed.

On Friday (May 23), Companiganj Police Station OC Gazi Muhammad Foujul Azim confirmed the robbery in two houses around noon. Earlier, on Thursday night, this heinous robbery took place in the house of Azad Driver in Ward No. 2 of Rampur Union of the upazila and the house of Lahari in Ward No. 8.

Locals said that on Thursday night around 2 am, a group of 8-9 masked robbers armed with country-made weapons broke the iron door lock of Azad Driver’s new house and entered the house. At one stage, they threatened him with weapons and looted 1 lakh 50 thousand taka in cash and 8 bhori of gold. On the other hand, at around 3 am, a gang of robbers broke the lock of the door of the building of Nur Islam Siddique of Lahri house in ward number 8 of the same union and entered the house. Immediately, the gang of robbers took the family members hostage at gunpoint, tied their hands and faces with gold and looted 30 thousand taka in cash along with 10 annas of gold.

After investigation, it was found that the members of the robbers were wearing pants-lungi, shirts and shirts. They spoke the local language. They were between 25-35 years old. Locals alleged that the notorious armed terrorist and inter-district robber Sardar Anwar Hossain Masud alias Picchi Masud (35) of Companiganj and his associates may be involved in these robberies. Picchi Masud is the son of Md. Abul Kashem alias Abul Khair of Tabarak Ali Bhuiyan house in ward number 4 of Mushapur union of the upazila. He was a close associate of the former mayor of Basurhat Municipality, Abdul Quader Mirza, who was in hiding. There are about 25 cases against him, including weapons, robbery, murder, drugs and assault on the police. It is said that Picchi Masud had previously ordered many robberies from prison.

Anwar Hossain Masud alias Picchi Masud’s mobile phone was called to inquire about the allegations, but the phone was switched off. Therefore, he could not comment on the matter.

Companyganj Police Station OC Gazi Muhammad Foujul Azim also said that there were robberies in two houses at the same time. 1 lakh taka and 8 bhoris of gold were looted from one house. They could not take much from the other house. After receiving the information, the police visited the scene. Further legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
