Dengue infected, 4 more deaths in last 24 hours, 241 in hospital

Four people have died in the last 24 hours due to Aedes mosquito-borne dengue fever across the country. With this, the total number of deaths this year has increased to 545 people. At the same time, 241 people were admitted to the hospital. In total, the number of infected has increased to 98 thousand 188 people.

 

This information was informed in a press release sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center of the Department of Health on Friday (December 13) evening.

 

It is said that all the 4 people who died in the last 24 hours are residents of Dhaka South City Corporation area.

 

According to the notification, among the newly admitted patients in the hospital, there are 9 people in Barisal division, 21 people in Chittagong division, 61 people in Dhaka division (outside City Corporation). Besides, 41 new patients were admitted in Dhaka North City, 46 in Dhaka South City, 44 in Khulna Division, 8 in Rajshahi Division, 8 in Mymensingh, 1 in Rangpur and 2 in Sylhet.

 

From January 1 to December 13, 2024, 98 thousand 188 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue. Out of which 63.10 percent are men and 36.90 percent are women. At the same time, 545 dengue patients died. Among whom 51.70 percent are women and 48.30 percent are men.

 

Dengue outbreaks occur every year during the rainy season. From June 2023, the dengue situation became dire. Last year, 321 thousand 179 patients were admitted to the hospital and received treatment in the country. Among them, 100,800 people were treated in Dhaka and 211,171 people outside Dhaka.

 

Three lakh 18 thousand 749 people recovered from the hospital and returned home. Last year, 1,705 people died of the mosquito-borne disease, the highest single-year death toll in the country’s history.

 

Earlier in 2019, 1 lakh 1 thousand 354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. Around 300 people including doctors and health workers died at that time.

 

During the corona epidemic in 2020, dengue infection was not seen much, but in 2021, 28 thousand 429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country. 105 people died of dengue that year.

 

In addition, in 2022, a total of 62 thousand 382 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue. That year, 281 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.
