The Election Commission (EC) severed the relationship with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) regarding National Identity Card (NID) services due to breach of contract. Apart from severing the relationship, the company has requested to pay the dues within the next 15 days.
ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of NID under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission, gave this information on Sunday (December 22). NID director general said that the number of public/private organizations receiving NID data verification services from the Election Commission is 183. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is one of them. On October 4, 2022, BCC entered into a bilateral agreement with the Election Commission regarding verification of information through registration. Under no circumstances may the Second Party (BCC) Commission data be transferred, exchanged, sold or otherwise provided to any other person, entity, party or organization as per the terms of this Agreement. But the BCC violated it.
The NID DG said that when an explanation was sought from the BCC on September 3 this year, the institution refrained from responding. Later on October 6, it was asked to reply within three working days. The answer given in it has been considered unsatisfactory by the Election Commission. Besides, the contract has been considered voidable by the Election Commission as the fees/charges applicable as per the contract have not been paid from the BCC within the stipulated time.
He said the contract was canceled and the API provided to BCC was disconnected.
