Clash of two groups of BNP over extortion money, youth leader shot dead

A bloody clash took place between two groups of BNP in Sonaimuri of Noakhali. BNP-backed opposition group shot Md. A youth leader named Halim (40) was shot dead.
This incident took place in the area of South Abir Para of Ward No. 1 of Amisha Para Union of Upazila on Monday (December 23) evening.
Halim, who was shot, was a member secretary candidate of Amisha Para Union Juba Dal and is the son of Mojibul Haque of Samir Uddin Haji village of the same village.
According to local sources, Hossain, a local auto-rickshaw driver, deposited some money for the sale of his ancestral property with a businessman from Bhuya Bari of the same village. Hossain went to Bhuya’s house to collect the deposited money last Sunday. On the way back from that house, Hossain was falsely accused of woman scandal Feroze and his accomplices demanded tribute. Later Hussain released them on the condition of paying money. When the matter became known, the locals forbade Hossain to pay money. As a result of this incident, Feroze was beaten up by Shanta and his men from the same ward on Sunday night. Then Shanto and his men attacked and vandalized Feroze’s house on Monday afternoon.
Later on Monday evening, Feroze and his followers went to Dakshin Abi district and attacked the peaceful group. There, Feroze, Mamun, Masud, Sagar beat Juba Dal leader Halim and shot him very close to the right side of the chest.
Abdul Hannan, elder brother of Halim who was shot, said there was no attack led by Shanto. Locals do everything in unity to prevent extortion. He also said that his brother is under treatment at Dhaka PG Hospital. But the doctor has not yet told them anything about his brother’s physical condition.
When contacted to inquire about the complaint, the cell phones of BNP supported accused Feroze, Mamun, Masud, Sagar were found switched off. So no comment was received from them.
Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Morshed Alam said that the police immediately visited the spot after receiving the information. The shot youth has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment. This happens around dominance. Immediately after the incident, the accused covered their bodies.
