A teenage girl was saved from child marriage by the intervention of the administration in Noakhali’s Sonaimuri. This incident took place at Alam Community Center of Ghoshkamata village of Nateshwar Union of Upazila on Friday (November 8) around 2:30 pm.
Immediately after getting the news, the wedding was stopped by a raid led by Sonaimuri Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Nasrin Akhter. At that time, the traveling court fined the bride’s eldest son.
Sonaimuri Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nashrin Akhter said, based on secret information, I got to know that a girl named Rubaiya Akhter (15) is being married at Alam Community Center of Ghoshkamta village of Nateshwar union of the upazila. After arriving at the scene and finding the truth of the complaint, the marriage was stopped immediately. Later, the child marriage prevention law of the bride. Faiz Ullah was fined five thousand rupees. At the same time, a bond is also taken that the girl will not get married until she turns 18.
UNO also said that the girl’s father is an expatriate. The family members failed to show the girl’s age proof documents during the raid.
