11 shops burnt to ashes in short circuit fire in Hatia

11 shops and 2 residential houses were burnt to ashes in Hatiya, an isolated island of Noakhali. The affected businessmen are claiming that there has been a loss of around 50 lakh rupees.

 

The fire incident took place at Afazia Bazaar in Sukhchar Union of the upazila on Wednesday (January 22).

 

According to the locals, the fire first started from a cosmetic shop in Afazia Bazar of Sukhchar Union of the upazila on Wednesday night. The owner of the shop suffered a stroke after seeing the fire in the shop. Soon the fire spread to the nearby shops. 11 shops and two residences were burnt to ashes.

 

Leader of Hatia Fire Service Station Harunur Rashid said that two units of Hatia Fire Service tried to bring the fire under control after two hours. However, 11 shops and two residences were burnt down. There were various shops including cloth shop, tea shop, cosmetic shop, gas shop. The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. The loss is at least 20 lakh rupees.
