Noakhali’s Companiganj Upazila Jubo League President and former Vice Chairman Azam Pasha Chowdhury Rumel has been detained.

He was detained by the immigration police at Dhaka’s Hairat Shahjalal International Airport in the early hours of Saturday (May 17).

According to local sources, Rumel is known to be a close associate of former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s younger brother, Companiganj Upazila Awami League (Prohibited Activities) President and former Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza. He has been in hiding since August 5. He tried to leave the country on a flight late on Friday night. But the airport’s immigration police detained him.

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Muhammad Foujul Azim said that Jubo League leader Rumel had been on the run since the August 5 change of heart. He wanted to go abroad quietly on Friday night. The police arrested him at the airport. I have been informed about his arrest. He is being brought to the Companyganj police station. There is a murder case against him.
