On Wednesday (November 13), the Attorney General made this statement in the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.

 

Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman said that Article 142 of the Constitution had provision for referendum. This provision of the Constitution was removed by the Fifteenth Amendment. We want to uphold this provision of referendum. This provision was repealed by the votes of those who became MPs through vote rigging.

 

Meanwhile, in the noon hearing on the validity of the fifteenth amendment, he commented that the fifteenth amendment is directly contrary to the spirit of our liberation war.

 

The Attorney General said the Fifteenth Amendment violated the basic structure of the Constitution. If this amendment is not repealed, the souls of those who sacrificed their lives in the popular uprisings of 90 and 24 will not rest in peace. He further said that the grave of democracy, fundamental rights and rule of law has been created by abolishing the caretaker government system.

 

Md. Asaduzzaman said, fascism has been prolonged through the fifteenth amendment, the sovereignty of the state has been undermined. The supremacy of the constitution has been undermined. Therefore, the fifteenth amendment must be repealed.
